Now that we're finally making some headway with our choice of venue, I'm beginning to give more thought to the smaller aspects of our wedding, like decoration. I know that once the big budget items such as catering, alcohol, photographer (and of course the dress!) are accounted for, there won't be a whole lot left in the pot for decor. So DIY decorations here we come! I love the idea of using mason jars, jam jars or even washed out Dolmio jars to create inexpensive decorations, lighting, centrepieces or even favours. Here are some of my favourite DIY mason jar ideas...
Mason jar vases can be used as centrepieces or dotted around your venue to add a splash of colour to a Spring wedding. These DIY floral centrepieces can be made for a fraction of the cost of a professional version using large jars, hessian and ribbon, a few limes and daffodils, which are probably the cheapest flowers to buy in the Spring.

Create romantic evening lighting with these doily wrapped jars. Again they would look great dotted around your venue or placed on the tables after dinner. See a tutorial on how to make these beautiful luminaries here.

If like me you need to hire in all the equipment, crockery, glasses etc into your venue, save some pennies on glass hire for your reception drinks by serving cocktails in mason jars. Its a cute and quirky alternative to a champagne reception. You can even go all out and create your own concoction of cocktail for your special day.

How's this for the cutest DIY favour idea. Give your guests their very own jar of cookie mix to take home. Customise the colour of the M&M's for the girls and boys! Full recipe is here.
